dO I NEED MY RENEWAL NOTICE TO RENEW MY TABS?
No you don't need your renewal notice to renew your tabs. Just bring in your ID and your plate number and we can usually look up the vehicle record.
What happened to the $30 car tabs?
On October 15, 2020 the Washington State Supreme Court ruled I-976 unconstitutional. WA State will continue to collect all current vehicle fees and taxes. Read more about it HERE.
how can i get a title in my name if i bought a vehicle with a lost title?
Ownership in Doubt - 3 Year Registration Only is a process to get a title if you are unable to obtain a release of interest from the registered owner or if the vehicle has no WA DOL vehicle record and no ownership document. Click HERE to review the process.
How do i transfer a title to washington from another state?
If you have recently moved to WA and want to get WA registration for your vehicles, firs start with getting your Washington State Driver License. Bring your license along with your vehicle titles into any local licensing office to get a WA title and plates issued. If you have a lienholder contact your lender first and ask them for a copy of the title. If the vehicle is 10 years or newer also bring the current odometer reading in at the time of transfer. Additionally, if you have owned the vehicle for less than 90 days please be prepared to show proof of sales tax paid at the time of the original purchase.
how much sales tax will i pay?
For private party sales, WA state sales tax is due at the time of transfer of the vehicle and the tax rate is based on your home address. You can look up your tax rate on the DOR website linked HERE, typically between 9%-10%. WA DOL will charge sales tax on the purchase price of the vehicle if it is within %20 of Fair Market Value of the vehicle or if the Fair Market Value is below $7,500. If the sale price is not within this specified range other forms will be required to explain the low sale price such as a Buyer Seller Declaration of Value, a retail appraisal or an estimate for repairs, all of which we are more than happy to help you with.
Who can pick up and / or purchase my car tabs for me?
Anyone with the same last name or address on their ID as is what is on the vehicle record can purchase and/or pick up registration and tabs. If the last name and address do not match a signed permission note will be required stating that you are authorizing that individual to purchase your tabs. Include the plate number or VIN, date and name of the induvial you are giving permission too.
Do I have to be a bickford ford customer to do licensing with you?
No. While we do licensing for the Bickford Ford Dealership we are a separate business and welcome anyone in need of licensing and titling services to our office.
Where should I sign the title when selling my vehicle?
Sign on the line that says "Signature of owner releases all interest in the vehicle". Be sure that all owners listed on the title have signed. You will also need to sign in the Odometer Disclosure area where it says "Signature of transferor/seller" if the vehicle is 10 years or newer. This will either be on the bottom or the back of the title depending on how old the title is. Please see our WA TITLE MAP page for an example of a newer WA title.
How do I replace my lost title?
If you have a WA vehicle titled in your name and have lost the title you have a few options for replacing that. If you are selling it to a WA resident you can simply meet them in a licensing agency and do the transfer at that time. You could also go to a licensing agency and purchase and Affidavit in Lieu of Title for $15, that along with a bill of sale and odometer disclosure (if 10 year or newer) will allow the buyer to transfer ownership in WA. If you are selling the vehicle out of state or just want to have an official title you can apply for a duplicate title in office for $35.50. That will be mailed to you from Olympia about 6-8 weeks after the applying. The other option is a Quick Title which is $85.50 and will be handed to you at the time of application. This option does have some restrictions and is only available at certain offices. Please find your local Quick Title office HERE.
Can I release my interest online?
Unfortunately, no. When selling a vehicle you must give the buyer a either a signed title or a signed and notarized release of interest of Affidavit in Lieu of Title. You may file a Report of Sale online but that does not help the buyer transfer ownership. A physical signed release is still required. Note: (A notarized or certified signed release of interest may be accepted if scanned and emailed in PDF format directly from a notary or licensing agency to another licensing agency)
WHAT TYPES OF PAYMENT DO YOU ACCEPT?
*Unfortunately we currently have no way to accept payment over the phone. Please see us in person, pay for tabs online or mail us a check. Thank you for your understanding. |
