Ownership in Doubt Process
Ownership in doubt is a three year process to get a Washington State Title if no ownership document can be found.
It begins with attempting to contact the owner of record and requesting a release of interest followed by a Washington State Patrol inspection. After the WSP inspection you can apply for license plates and registration in your name. After three years you can apply for a Washington Title in your name at any Washington State Licensing Office. You can legally drive and sell the vehicle during the three years as long as the new buyer is willing to accept the remainder of the three years time period before applying for title.
